Democrats Criticize Trump After He States They Should Face Death Penalty

Democratic officials voiced fury after the ex-president alleged a contingent of Democratic congress members of being "traitors" and declared they should be taken into custody and punished "through capital punishment" following their posting of a disputed video.

The Message That Provoked the Dispute

The recorded message, released on Tuesday, showcases six Democratic congress members who formerly worked in defense or security capacities.

"As we did, you all swore an vow to protect and defend this national charter," the officials declared in the 90-second video. "And right now, the risks to our constitution aren't just from foreign nations, but from domestically. Our laws are explicit, you can reject illegal orders, you can refuse improper directives, you must refuse illegal orders. No one has to carry out commands that contravene the statutes or our constitution."

Trump's Incensed Reply

The recorded statement seemed to prompt a furious reaction from the former president.

On later in the week, Trump published on his social media platform: "This constitutes SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these betrayers to our United States should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In an additional post, he wrote: "This represents really serious, and Risky to our United States. Their statements cannot be permitted to stand. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a additional post, he stated: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!" He also reposted a statement that read: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Party Representatives Answer

Following Trump's comments on that day, House Democratic leader released a unified declaration condemning the statements.

"Political violence has no role in America," they wrote. "Congress members who were featured in the video all worked our country with exceptional national pride and distinction. We unequivocally denounce Donald Trump's disgusting and risky threats of violence against members of Congress, and appeal to House Republicans to vigorously do the same."

The opposition officials also said that they had been in touch with protective services "to make certain the safety of these representatives and their relatives."

"Donald Trump must right away remove these extreme digital publications and retract his violent rhetoric before he gets someone killed," the declaration stated.

Representatives' Strong Reaction

The lawmakers who appeared in the video also issued a response.

"We are veterans and national security professionals who care for this United States and took an oath to defend and defend the constitution of the United States," they stated. "That oath continues forever, and we intend to maintain it. No warning, pressure, or promotion of aggression will deter us from that fundamental responsibility."

"What's most telling is that the ex-president deems it subject to penalty by capital punishment for us to restate the statutes," they continued. "Our service members should recognize that we have their protection as they fulfill their oath to the national charter and duty to follow only legal commands. It is not only the proper thing to do, but also our duty."

They added: "The entire nation must come together and condemn the ex-president's calls for our death and ideological conflict. This is a time for moral clarity."

Further Governmental Comments

The Opposition leader also censured Trump's comments and posted on social media: "It's important to understand: the President of the United States is calling for the capital punishment of elected officials."

He added: "This constitutes an outright THREAT. All senators, all representatives, the entire nation – without partisan consideration – should denounce this right away and without qualification."

The GOP leader justified Trump's claim that the Democrats had been involved in "sedition", characterizing the video as "highly unsuitable", stating: "This constitutes very harmful, you have important representatives of the government instructing troops to ignore directives, I think that's historic in American history."

The Republican leader also allegedly stated to media outlets that in what he examined of Trump's posts, Trump was "explaining the crime of rebellion" but that "lawyers have to parse the wording and establish all that."

White House Statement

During a White House press conference on later that day, when questioned by a reporter, "Does the president want to put to death members of Congress?", the executive branch representative answered: "Certainly not."

"We should understand about what the president is addressing," the official said. "You have current representatives of the federal government who coordinated to orchestrate a digital communication to members of the national defense, to current military personnel urging them to defy the commander in chief's legal commands."

She said: "The integrity of our military depends on the command structure, and if that chain of command is compromised, it can lead to casualties, it can lead to chaos, and that's what these members of Congress ... are essentially supporting."
