Supporters Urge Custody of Individual Who Seized Ariana Grande
Loyal supporters of the pop star are calling for that a person who leaped a fence and grabbed the performer during yesterday's Wicked: For Good launch be taken into custody or expelled from Singapore.
A viral clip shows the individual from Australia pushing past media personnel and lunging at Grande while the cast made its way down a promenade surrounded by supporters.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo immediately guided the stunned actress away from Mr Wen, who was seen being led away of the event by security officers.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "free after being detained", though official papers revealed that he was set to be present on the following morning. It is uncertain if he was faced legal action.
Record of Event Invasions
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Controversial Figure", has disrupted a performance. His Instagram account includes clips of him disrupting other high-profile occasions, including jumping on stage at the pop singer's Sydney show in earlier this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers event in the city last year.
"Steps should be implemented enforced against him as this is obviously a legal violation," wrote an Instagram commenter, in a reply to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his act.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" a different Instagram user questioned.
Fans Voice Worry Over Ariana's Well-being
Many supporters blamed Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had spoken of suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after a suicide bomb attack at the conclusion of her spring 2017 performance in Manchester, killing 22 people and wounding hundreds.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" commented one more message on Instagram.
A number of fans also questioned event staff at the Thursday event for not being vigilant enough; while some requested online networks to remove Mr Wen's videos.
Reaction and Premiere Information
In footage circulating online, Grande appeared shocked when she was touched by the individual. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed consoling her while Mr Wen was removed by guards.
Grande has not commented on the event, and the rest of the event proceeded as normal.
Hundreds of supporters had gathered in a mass of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good regional debut in a Singapore mall, including a number who had waited for as long as eight hours before it began.
The movie, to be premiered on 21 November, is the follow-up of a dual version of the popular theatrical musical Wicked, which revolves around the surprising bond between two very different characters.
The show itself is a spin-off of the 1900 children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the character Glinda Glinda, was decked out in a rosé glittering gown at the premiere while Erivo, who plays the Elphaba, wore a black tube gown embroidered with roses.
They were joined by fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the highest-grossing motion picture of last year in the UK, and earned ten award recognitions, securing a pair for excellent wardrobe and artistic direction.
