The Hit Drama Confirmed for 7th Season on BBC
The beloved crime series AC-12 is officially returning for its 7th installment, confirmed by the BBC.
A brand new six-episode season written by Jed Mercurio will begin filming in Northern Ireland this spring, as confirmed by the network.
The actress expressed excitement about the return, saying she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Her co-star remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together soon."
The previous series wrapped up in recent years with a final episode that attracted more than 17 million audience members. Speculation about a new season have been circulating ever since, but official word only arrived this week.
New Challenges for AC-12
The seventh season will open with the anti-corruption unit no longer existing and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by production details.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Ted Hastings continue tasked to combat misconduct within the law enforcement.
The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, the trio will take on their "most sensitive case to date."
New Character and Complex Case
A new character, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer known for busts of criminal networks, is accused of abusing his position to act as a offender.
Yet, this investigation could be a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still active in the background, the teaser hinted.
Speaking about the renewal, the creator commented: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans."
"It's an honor to have had so many fans watch the ups and downs of the unit over multiple series and we are thrilled to be returning for a seventh installment."
Mercurio continued: "Corruption in this country is supposed to have ended while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."
Cast Reactions
Martin Compston described being part of the police drama as "the role of a career".
"Not only the program's popularity but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he said.
The Nottingham-born actress stated: "It goes without saying I'm very happy the show is back! Eager to work with Jed, Compston and Adrian again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar commented: "While anticipating the AC-12 days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the central trio will be working together soon."
"Delighted with the news and anticipating those unexpected twists and turns."
Show History
The drama launched in the early 2010s and became one of the most popular TV dramas of the last decade, featuring guest stars such as Lennie James.
The BBC haven't revealed exactly the upcoming series will premiere.
The conclusion of season six drew the extended plot about the hunt for kingpin known as "H" to a close, and producers said at the moment there were no plans for further series.
However, the corporation confirmed on this week that a seventh series is now in development.
